COMMUNI-tea Support for Callie

Empathy v. Compassion: What’s the Difference?

Your FIRST installment in communi-TEA. Click here for context. What is it? Not too sure, but we will figure it out together. For now it’s a quick recap of my weekly little life lessons & the first idea I have for how we can come together to support our community.

I’ll call it Semi-educational drama?

Here we go…

My heart is bursting this week. School’s out for summer, Baby SopChick turned 6 & Mady’s story is being HEARD. Louder & prouder than Callie and I ever could’ve imagined ❤️‍🩹

Callie shared the story on her social media, the support from her family & friends floored me:

Love, Support, Warmth, Kindness. I’ve learned so much this week alone, perception truly is everything ❤️‍🩹 The incredible support and uplifting messages for Callie & Mady had me crying tears of happiness.

Those messages are the communi-tea feeling that the punitive system and the world so desperately needs. The unconditional love & empathy shown in the messages above, versus judgment & shame.

Callie & I always knew Mama Madz was destined for greatness. She had this energy about her, positive vibes with an I’ll kick you’re ass if you mess with me or my people attitude. Just wish Mady would’ve seen it while she was alive.

This video sums up Mady & Callie’s beautifully funny unconditional love in 10 seconds. Unmute to hear Mady’s belly laugh at the end.

Her laugh gets me every time 🥹

Joyful, energetic, funny, full of life. That’s our sassy girl. The morning Mady’s story went up, Callie & I had a sense of peace knowing that Mady’s story is out there to be heard forever now.

Mady’s story is tragically beautiful, the sad, modern day Romeo & Juliet.

Callie inherited Mady’s kick your ass spirit when it comes to her three boys. Mama Bear Callie, don’t mess with her cubs.

Baby Sopchick and I spent last Sunday celebrating Callie’s boys 1st & 3rd birthdays with family & friends in her backyard. It was the perfect Sunday afternoon filled with belly laughs, just like Mady’s in the video. My heart was so full when we left.

Callie is such an amazing mama 🩷 adored by all 3 of her boys

Given some family dynamics & and an inability to let go of the past, Callie, Joe*, and their two baby boys had to scramble to get cash for a new place and security deposit.

Callie is thriving given the trauma she’s endured in her little over two decades on this planet.

She is struggling to pay rent, fix her car, and replace her baby items that were spitefully sold.

Callie has overcome abuse, addiction and trauma to be an incredibly loving mama to her family. She’s saving lives like she saved her own. She needs & deserves time to breathe and heal.

I can’t sit back passively and watch her struggle to live well after overcoming so much. She’s always deserved more.

Time to show compassion & show Mady we’re keeping her Callie girl safe.

What is the difference between empathy & compassion? I’m a visual learner.

Empathy burned me out, compassion has me inspired again.

Empathy is feeling; Compassion is action.

Show your empathy for Mady & Callie’s story by continuing to share it on social media with #JimmyHadNoLove & #MadysRights.

One way I’m learning to embrace the gray is by channeling my empathy superpower into showing compassion.

I’m not just a bitter former employee writing a dear diary.

I’m a compassionate bitter former employee writing a blog about justice, injustice & moral turpitude.

I’ll be more motivated to publicly read the chapters of my burn book when the people featured in COMMUNI-tea are breathing a bit easier. You rub my back, I’ll rub yours? 🤭

I hope this post will encourage you to transition from having empathy to showing compassion, whether it be with financial support or getting active in your community.

See you later this week. Thanks for the tea party!
